Buhyoff, Josephine Mary

Josephine Mary Buhyoff passed away peacefully on April 12, 2012. She was born to John and Mary Bandyk on January 16, 1922, in Pinconning, Mich., and lived many years in Dearborn, Mich. before moving to Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg in 2005. Jo was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Gregory John Buhyoff; her daughter Susan; and by three sisters, Rose, Mary, and Helen; and two brothers, Joe and Frank. She is survived by her son, Gregory James Buhyoff and his wife, Marilyn, of Blacksburg; her grandson Matt and his wife, Alyson, of Washington, D.C.; and many special nieces and nephews. Jo was a wonderful cook, loved gardening and she enjoyed discussing politics, religion, and current events. However, she was proudest of her grandson, her Polish heritage, and her work as a “Rosie the Riveter” on B-17 Flying Fortress bombers during World War II. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg. The family will greet friends at the church one hour before the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored with gifts in Jo’s memory to the Warm Hearth Foundation, 2607 Warm Hearth Drive, Suite 100, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
