Smith, Elizabeth Gibson

Elizabeth Gibson Smith, 71, of Christiansburg, Va., ended her life on earth on January 12, 2007. “Betty” faced her last days with the same courage that carried her through her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Smith in 1973, sister, Charlotte Thacker, and brothers, Calvin and Elwood “Tom” Gibson and grandson, Timothy Smith, Jr.

She is survived by her son, James W. “Bill” Smith and wife Jill of Dumas, Texas, son, Timothy W. “Tim” Smith of Christiansburg; daughter, Teresa Jennings and husband, Doug of Shawsville, Va.; grandchildren, Billy and Brittney Smith, Kiah Smith, Meggan Jennings, Morgan Jennings and Mitchell Jennings; great-grandchildren, Brennon Smith and Junior Jennings; a brother, Robert Gibson of Waynesboro, Va., and special nephew, Thomas Thacker of Covington, Va.

“Betty” found joy through a host of other family and special friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Adventa Hospice for the comfort, support and enrichment provided to our mother during her illness. They would also like to thank the staff of Heritage Hall for their caring kindness, support and friendship during her last days. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to Adventa Hospice, 1649 Apperson Drive, Salem, Va., 24153.

A service will be held in her memory at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va.
