dickerson glenna chapmanGlenna Chapman Dickerson, 86, of Pearisburg, transitioned to her heavenly home Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital. She was born in Pembroke May 9, 1925, to the late Kemper and Maude Chapman. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Pearisburg where she served as a member of the First Baptist Chorus and the Missionary Ministry. Her love for her pastor and first lady was shown in her gift of giving and faithfulness to their ministry. She loved working outside, grooming her flowers and shrubs. Her favorite quote was “who wouldn’t serve a good God.” She loved the Lord, her church, and church family. She was such a loving and encouraging person. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dickerson Sr.; two brothers, George and Lawrence Chapman; and four sisters, Elizabeth and Lillian Chapman, Mabel Wilson, and Rosa King; two sons-in-law, Harold Johnson and David E. Hutchinson. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Robert L. (Kay) Dickerson, of Pearisburg; three daughters, Nancy Hutchinson, of Roanoke, Brenda Johnson, of Pearisburg, Linda (Sabra) Geter, of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, James E. Chapman, of Pembroke; sister-in-law, Margaret Dickerson, of Pearisburg; a special niece, Madeline King, of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Michael Bratton officiating with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 152 Ballard St., Pearisburg, VA 24134. The family is being served by the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg.
