Collins, Lawrence Wayne (Larry)

Lawrence Wayne (Larry) Collins, 75, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Larry was born November 6, 1936, in Pembroke. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Eunice Collins; and brother, Conrad Collins. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bertie Sadler Collins; four children, Sandra Stark and Gary Van Auken, Yvonne Bryan, Mark Collins, Anthony and Janice Collins; his loving grandchildren, Gary Wayne and Debra Stark, Angelina Bryan, Michelle Stark, Jessica and Josh Aydlette, Johnathan and Lauren Collins, Anthony Collins and Joey Gusler; along with nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Dale and Roma Collins; and sisters, Edna and Allen Lawson and Talma Furrow. Lawrence’s life opportunities began with a 20 year military career, serving three years in the United States Marine Corps, followed by 17 years in the U.S. Navy. His proud service provided the opportunities to travel the world and bring back numerous stories and anecdotes to share with family. Larry’s second career in retail included managing the Exxon E-Z Stop in Radford for 16 years. In later years, he found enjoyment having grandchildren and great-grandchildren around, along with the simple pleasures of fishing and woodworking. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Kenny Park. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
