Denny, William Amberse
William Amberse Denny, 90, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Bill, as he was known, was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1940 to 1946. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He served his country with the 1st Marine Division throughout the Pacific during World War II, participating in the battles of Pearl Harbor, Midway, Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Solomon Island, and Okinawa. Bill worked for Appalachian Power Company from 1948 until his retirement in the mid 1980s. He loved the outdoors and spent many memorable times fishing and hunting with family members. He took great pride in his vegetable gardens and lawn. But the love of his life was his Lord, Jesus Christ; his wife of 67 years, Christine; and all of his family, especially his grandson, Cameron. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Christine C. Denny; his father and mother, James A. and Etelka A. Denny; two sisters, Mae Darnell and Lillian Hartsog; and one brother, James L. Denny. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Roger W. Denny and wife, Karen; grandson, Cameron W. Denny; brothers, Darius Denny, and Venard Denny and wife, Betty; sisters, Merle Darby, and Vivian Blevinson and husband, Falous. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel.
