Craighead, William Edgar

William Edgar Craighead, 82, passed away on December 29 2006 in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

He was born on September 14, 1924 in Cambria, Virginia and was the eldest son of George Washington Craighead and Della Wood. He grew up with his brother and sisters in Ironto and in the Roanoke, Virginia area.

He served in the U.S. Army starting in April 1943 and retired from the U.S. Air Force in June of 1971. During his tenure, he served tours of duty overseas in Germany, North Africa, and South America. He was stationed at Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico, West Palm Beach AFB, Florida, Turner AFB, Georgia, and Forbes AFB, Kansas. Bill returned to West Palm Beach after his retirement where he worked for Trogden Automotive in Lake Worth.

Bill is survived by his wife, Erika; son, Michael of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Angela Billig of St. Louis, Missouri, daughters, Stephanie, Renee Adams, and Linda Clough. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Stacy, Thomas, Joseph, Erika, Brian James, Dylan, Matt, Amanda and great-grand children, Jack, Lilly, and Angelina. He is also survived by his brother, George J. (June); and sisters, Myrtle Collins, Geneva Morris, Edith Epperly, Betty Perfater, and Juanita Wheeler of Lafayette, Virginia.

Bill will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. Services will be held at a later date in Lafayette, Virginia and at Arlington National Cemetery. Palms West Funeral Home, Royal Palm Beach, Florida 561-753-6004.
