Hairston, John T.

John T. Hairston, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2012. He was born June 14, 1920, to the late Samuel Wesley Hairston and Janie B. Hairston Purcell. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Nannie Mae Berger Hairston; daughters, Catherine (James) McDaniel, of Potomac, Md.; Edwina (Fred) Miles, of Washington, D.C.; Dy-Anne (Benjamin) Penn, of Hurricane,W.Va.; and Colette (Gary) Hash, of Pulaski; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and host of relatives and friends. The viewing for family and friends will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012, at Shaffer Memorial Baptist Church. A Celebration of His Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church, 581 High Street, Christiansburg. The church will be open at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Schaeffer Community Cemetery, Christiansburg. Services entrusted to Penn’s Funeral Home, Pulaski.
