Hatcher, Sylvia Boyd
Sylvia Boyd Hatcher, 86, of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2006. She was born February 16, 1920 in the Shooting Creek section of Floyd County and later moved to the farm on what is now Great Oaks Country Club. Her parents were General W. Boyd and Eula Radford Boyd.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Donald D. Hatcher. She was also predeceased by her brother, Wilson Boyd and her sisters, Leila Hatcher, Pauline Brockwell, Tempsey Moran, Goldie Nolen, and her infant sister, Frances Evelyn Boyd.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Reynolds; and her sons, Ray Hatcher and companion, Bethel Reinhard and Micky Hatcher and wife, Carolyn; her dear sisters, Ocie Weddle, Irene Spangler, and Lucy Harris. She leaves her grandchildren, Michaele Holloway and husband E. C., Rene? Reynolds, Brenda Vest and husband Mike, Stephen Hatcher and wife Loretta, and Elizabeth Hatcher; great -grandchildren, Megan Weeks, Brittney Hatcher, Travis Hatcher, Desiree Hatcher, Morgan Abe, Mickayelyn Hairston, Lexy Hairston, Micah Hairston, and Nathan Holloway; brother-in-law and spouse, W.W. and Lindell Hatcher. She also leaves her dear friends, Mrs. Geneva Simmons and Mrs. Minnie Board.
In addition to her immediate family, Sylvia had her Little River Baptist Church family, her Donkenney family, her Ray’s Restaurant family, especially Agnes, Leman, and Joyce, and her Skyline Manor family, especially Mary, Valerie, and Clara. Mom lived her life by three rules, Love the Lord, Follow the Golden Rule, and work hard. She could always find some good in everyone, and looked for it harder than most.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Little River Baptist Church with the Reverend Allan Vass officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. Following the burial, the family invites you to celebrate Grannies life at Ray’s Restaurant. Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home Tuesday after 2 p.m. where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
The family would like to thank her saint, Dr. L.V. Marshall and her angels, the staff at Skyline Manor Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Little River Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
