Harrell, Dora Mae Poe

Dora Mae Poe Harrell, loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and aunt, 97, of Dublin, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital Pulaski. She was born on May 20, 1914, to Lee Ander Poe and Lue Ellen Poe in Atkins, Va.

Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Samuel Franklin Harrell Jr.; her parents; five brothers, Luther, Arthur, Charlie, Clay and Pete Poe; sisters, Zenith Helene Poe, Ruth Hawks, and her twin sister, Flora Fay Aust.

She is survived by her daughter and only child, Brenda Joyce Harrell Jones and her wonderful and devoted son-in-law, Alfred N. “Nick” Jones. Also surviving are grandson, Timothy Alan Jones and wife, Angela; granddaughter, Tara Lynne Jones Clark and husband, Robin; three wonderful great- grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “G.G.” for great-grandmother, Meredith Elaine Etter, David Nicholas Etter and Zakkary Alan Jones, all of Dublin. Also surviving are her brother, Harmon Poe, of Dublin; sister-in-law, Guida Harrell, of Pulaski; a special niece, Tanya L. Hurst, of Dublin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Dublin United Methodist Church where Dora was a faithful member until it was physically impossible for her to attend. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service at 3 p.m. followed by the burial at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.

Flowers will be appreciated, but in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her memory to the Dublin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 577, Dublin, VA 24084.
