Sumner, Lucille Irene

Lucille Irene Duncan Sumner, 87, of Christiansburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter Enoch Duncan and Magdelena Richardson Duncan; her husband, George Owen Sumner; and her brothers, Walter Duncan Jr. and Buster Duncan.

She is survived by her sons, Roy Rogers Sumner, of Lovettsville, Va., Steve Alan Sumner and wife, Sherri, of Manassas, Va., and Marc Anthony Sumner ,of Bumpass, Va., and fiance, Pauline Ray, of Alexandria, Va.; brother, William Duncan and wife, Frances; grandchildren, Angela Marie Cross and husband, Josh, of Leesburg, Va., Brian Stanley Sumner, Ashley Marland, and Jennifer Carter; great-grandchildren, Julie Cross and Kendall Cross; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

Lucille was a long time active member of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Annie Wickham Circle and was active with the Christiansburg Senior Center. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 21, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Don Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Mausoleum, Christiansburg.

The family requests that memorials in Lucille’s name be given to the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren, 310 S. Franklin Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
