Lilly, Warren Arthur

Warren Arthur Lilly, 91, of Pearisburg, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, in Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount. He was born in McCoy on October 12, 1920, and was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Rife and Sadie (Kate) Belle McCoy Lilly. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Oakley, Virgil, and Noel Lilly; his sisters, Lotus Albert and Oueda Jones. Warren was an active member of First Christian Church in Pearisburg, where he served as an Elder for 50 years. He was a Masonic member and past master of Giles Lodge 106 A.F.&A.M. for 70 years. He served in the army in World War II and was in the invasions of the Philippines and Okinawa. He retired from Celanese in Giles County with 42 years of service. Warren was a member of the Little Meadows Hunt Club for 40 years and a member of the Coal Miners Association in McCoy. He was a member of the board of directors of the Lilly Reunion Association in Flat Top, W.Va., and a board member of the CELCO Federal Credit Union in Narrows. Warren is survived by his wife, Juanita Albert Lilly; daughters, LaVon Howery and husband, Curtis, of Silver Spring, Md., Audrey Shiflett and husband, Ronald, of Rocky Mount; sons, Phillip Lilly, of Pearisburg, and Paul Lilly of San Antonio, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Rodney Howery, Sarah Howery Noone, Rachel Shiflett Poorman, Adrienne Shiflett, Brittany Lilly and Michelle Lilly; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexander Noone, Curtis William and Riley Warren Howery (twins), Gabriel Poorman, Christian Poorman, and Cynthia Poorman; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Joel Saucedo officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery, McCoy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 210 Fort Branch Road, Pearisburg, VA 24134.
