William Banks, 90, of Guinea Mt., Pearisburg, departed this life Saturday, December 17, 2011, in the care of Riverview Nursing Home at Rich Creek. Born in Eggleston on April 2, 1920, he was a son of the late Burton and Nora Snuffer Banks. For over thirty-five years he was a faithful employee of the Norfolk and Western Railroad and a member of First Baptist Church in Pembroke. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ernest Banks and his sister. Hattie Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory his niece, Shirley Banks Johnson, of Pearisburg; his nephews, Lonnie Freeman, of Pearisburg, and David Freeman, of Pembroke; and a host of friends and the buddies he made while on the railroad. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.
