Atkinson, Gertrude Brewer

Gertrude Brewer Atkinson, formerly of Radford, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011. She was born March 21, 1920, in Pulaski. Preceding her in death were her husband, William R. Atkinson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Brewer; and a brother and dear sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Brewer Sr. Also predeceasing her were three sisters, Mildred Hodges, Edith Meadors, and Virginia Trussler. Surviving are her two sons, Gary R. Atkinson and his wife, Brenda, of Roanoke, Allen Rand Atkinson and his wife, Sonia, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister, Frances Haymore, of Forest. Surviving also are four grandchildren, Mary Shippy, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Patrick Atkinson, of Dayton, Ohio, Hunter Atkinson, of Rockville, Md., and Ashley Atkinson, of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Amanda, and Kaylie Shippy, Ciara Atkinson, and Colin Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, with the Rev. Gerald Meeds officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
