martin odell hamptonOdell Hampton Martin, 88, of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, December 12, 2011 at Pulaski Health and Rehab. Mr. Martin was born on September 27, 1923, in Paint Bank, and was a son of the late Elva Hampton Martin and Essa Viola Martin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Crosier Martin; a son, Dr. Donald L. Martin, DDS; two sisters and four brothers. Mr. Martin was a World War II Army Air Force Veteran, a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 64 years, a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, and was a big fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Giles Spartans. He is survived by two sons, Steve and wife, Rebecca S. Martin of Raleigh, N.C., and Timothy Martin of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Brenda A. Martin, of Pulaski; six grandchildren, Dr. Pamela Phillips, Dr. Cynthia Southern, Heather Locklear, Bryan Martin, Emma Martin, and Ben Martin; and 10 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Brad Scott and the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating, with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg.
