Shepherd, Margret Lucille Smith

Margret Lucille Smith Shepherd, 86, of Prices Fork died on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital. Lucille was born in Dickinson County, Va. on September 19, 1925. She was the eldest child of the late Gilmer and Floria Orrender Smith. Lucille was also preceded in death by her husband, John M. Shepherd, sister, Mildred, infant brother, Earl Keith and infant sister, Arminda and son-in-law, Jack Smith Jr. Lucille is survived by her children, Amanda S. Thomas and husband, Joe, of Glen Allen, Va., Janie M. Smith, of Greensboro, N.C., Kenneth G. Shepherd and wife, Carolyn, of Peoria, Ariz., Wm. Bruce Shepherd and wife, Moggie, of Blacksburg, Richard L. Shepherd and wife, Ann, of Blacksburg, Frederick M. “Dickie” Shepherd and wife, Fran, of Newport, John F.K. Shepherd and wife, Crystal, of Roanoke. Lucille is survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Elizabeth, Catherine, Alice, and Nell, and brothers Charles, Don and Ross. Lucille was known for her sewing skills, especially furniture upholstery and quilt making. She was an active member of Price’s Fork United Methodist Church. Lucille was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg, with Pastor Debra Copeland and Pastor John Wertz officiating. Interment will follow in the James Bane Price Cemetery in Price’s Fork. Memorials may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060, or the United Methodist Women, 4236 Price’s Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends Monday, December 5, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
