Moody, Alice Pietra

Alice Pietra Moody, 90, of Blacksburg, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Alice was born in Baltimore, Md., on June 10, 1921. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Henry Pietra and Katherine Lutts Pietra; and her husband, John Ellis Moody. Alice came to Blacksburg in 1946 when her husband, John, joined the Agronomy Department of Virginia Tech. Transformed into a true Hokie and as graduate of St. Katharines, she lent her many talents to Virginia Tech in the Computing Center and in her beloved Newman Library, where she retired at age 87. Her life in Blacksburg was enriched by many loyal friends and neighbors, as well as by her membership at Blacksburg Baptist Church. A loving clan is left to cherish Alice’s memory and follow her example of a life well lived. They include her children, Joan Moody Steele and husband, Don Steele, Donald A. Moody and partner, Debra Graff, and Paul E. Moody and spouse, Debbie Moody. Her grandchildren include Katherine Bondi and husband, Scott, Don Moody and wife, Stacey, Khrys Steele Marshall and husband, Tom, Karla Moody Woodruff and husband, Drew, Sarah Moody, and John Moody. Her great- grandchildren include Leilani, Kamaile and Micah Moody, Nathan and Kaitlyn Bondi, Liam and Morgaine Marshall, and Makiya, Kaden and Donovan Woodruff. Alice will be remembered for her strength, generous spirit, compassion, wit, and gift for storytelling. She leaves a unique footprint of love and friendship on the hearts of those who came into the path of her life. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Don McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, Va. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
