Gary Charles (Crab) Potts, 61, of Fairlawn, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Gary was born in Wytheville, on July 17, 1950. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Madeline Stringer Potts; brothers, Ronald C. Potts and Robert D. Potts. He is survived by his life partner, Dr. Elaine Woolwine, of Fairlawn; special daughter and her spouse, Lauren and Richard Warden; three special grandsons, Alex, Jayden and Tanner Warden, of Pulaski; son and his partner, Theri and Julie Wood, of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters and brother-in-law, Darlene and Jack Eaves, of Jonesborough, Tenn., Jerry C. Potts, of Waynesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas M. and Joyce Potts, of Roanoke; four nieces and three nephews. He is also survived by his loyal dog and companion, Wilson. Gary graduated from George Wythe High School and attended Wytheville Community College. He served in the United States Navy from 1969-1973. Most of his working career was in the hospitality industry from Northern Virginia to the Roanoke Valley. He was general manager of the Days Inn/Civic Center, Roanoke and was owner/operator of the Boiler Room on the City Market in downtown Roanoke. Services will be held at DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Mike Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va. The family would like to thank the VA Medical Center in Salem and the Radford Health and Rehab Center for the outstanding care, love, and support they offered us during Gary’s illness.
