Self, Maggie S.
Maggie S. Self, of Pulaski, entered into rest at 4:45 p.m. on September 19, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Self was born on November 17, 1920 in Scott County, Va. and was the daughter of William and Ellen Fugate Salyers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Hugh Self; brothers, W.D. Salyers and Emmett Salyers; and sisters, Jacqueline Collins, Hettie Spears; three half sisters and two half brothers. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, C. Eugene and Virginia S. Self, of Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie S. and Ronald W. Westmoreland, of Salem; son, William H. Self, of Christiansburg; sisters, Mae Cox, of Johnson City, Tenn. and Ruby Meade, of Pulaski; grandchildren, Lisa Westmoreland, of Roanoke, Jeffrey S. Self, of Richmond, , Jackie S. and Mustapha Laari, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandsons and wives, Scott and Christy MacTavish, of Virginia Beach, John and Mary Self, of Nashville, Tenn., and Brian Self, of Cannon City, Colo. Maggie was a member of Thornspring United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Dublin Garment Company and Pulaski Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Thornspring United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. conducted by Pastor Teresa Tolbert from the church, with a luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to Thornspring United Methodist Church, 5670 Thornspring Church Road Dublin, VA. 24084.
