huppert_janice_mcdanielJanice Marie McDaniel Huppert, 56, of Christiansburg, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011, after a four year battle against ovarian cancer. She was born in Eden, N.C., on January 12, 1955, and during her childhood, resided in Henry County, Va. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Claybrook Emerson McDaniel. She is survived by Steve Huppert, her husband of 37 years. She is also survived by her daughter and son- in-law, Sharon and Chris Hewitt, of Christiansburg; her daughter, Stephanie Huppert, of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Abigail and Colin Hewitt; her mother, Bernice McDaniel, of Martinsville, Va.; sister, Mona McDaniel, of Franklin County, Va.; and special uncle, Mack McDaniel, of Eden, N.C. She was blessed by a long life of cherished relationships with many close friends, neighbors, coworkers and relatives who were all a special part of her life. Janice graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Accounting, and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years. Her most recent employment was as controller of Simon and Associates of Blacksburg. Janice was always willing to give of her time to support her church, school and various fund-raising activities. She was most proud of her work with the American Cancer Society ‘s Annual Relay For Life , having served as a team captain for most of the last 20 years. The family is appreciative of the supportive friends, neighbors and family who have surrounded them. They would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the letters, phone calls, food, and specials visits. The family also wishes to show their appreciation to Dr. Dennis R. Scribner and his staff for the love and support of the past four years. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Christiansburg, Va. Interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, Va.
