Calhoun, Heather Noelle (Shoemaker)
Heather Noelle (Shoemaker) Calhoun, 34, a resident of Blacksburg, Va., previously of Davidsonville, Md., died on Saturday, August 13, 2011, in Burlington, Vt., after complications from cancer. She is survived by her husband, Sam Calhoun; and their three children, Jocelyn (6), Liam (2), and Veronica (8 months); parents, Chalmer “Tinker” and Carol Shoemaker, of Davidsonville, Md.; sister, Jennifer Shoemaker-Hummel, of Odenton, Md.; and brother, Mark Shoemaker, of Hillsborough, N.J. She graduated with Honors from New River Community College and transferred to Virginia Tech, where she graduated with Honors with a BAS in Horticulture and received the Most Outstanding Student Award from the Department of Horticulture. She previously was employed at Intrexon as a Scientist Assistant. On Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 5 p.m., a memorial service with be held at the Hahn Horticultural Gardens at Virginia Tech. On the following Saturday, August 27, 2011, a celebration of life will take place at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway, Gambrills, MD 21054.
