Hedgepeth, Elnora Fike (Jenny)

Elnora Fike (Jenny) Hedgepeth was making steady recovery following a series of hospitalizations that related to pulmonary and coronary issues that began in early April. However, on Thursday morning, July 28, 2011, death came to Jenny swiftly and unexpectedly in the Montgomery Lewis-Gale hospital. God has given her the peace that only HE could give. Mrs. Hedgepeth was born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 20, 1938. She was raised by her adopted parents, the Rev. Earle Fike, Sr. and his wife, Ann, who are both deceased. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Jenny lived in many places including Roanoke, where her several uncles and aunts (all deceased) made their home. Other places were Circleville, West Virginia, Fredericksburg, and Danville. Surviving Mrs. Hedgepeth is her husband Roger, former mayor of Blacksburg. Surviving children are Michael and his wife, Shelley, and their two sons, Risher and Azat, all of Blacksburg. Surviving also are her daughter, Natalie, and her husband, Dave, and their two children, son Austin and daughter, Taylor, all of Bristol, Virginia. Jenny spent 54 of her 73 total years in Blacksburg where she made countless friends and watched the town and Virginia Tech grow to their current states. Her children attended Blacksburg schools and Virginia Tech. Included among her employers were Pilot Life Insurance, the News Messenger, Southern Printing, and the Virginia Tech College of Education and the College of Engineering. In later years she also helped and counseled many, many people and served as a volunteer for a time at Montgomery Hospital. She was active in the very early days of the theater productions at Tech. Mrs. Hedgepeth’s remains will be interred at a later time with the Memorial Gardens of the NRV in north Blacksburg. A memorial service to celebrate Jenny’s sojourn on this earth will also be planned and announced soon. Friends who so desire may pay their respects on that occasion.
