Harless, William Lee

William Lee Harless, 76, of Berton, VA, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 with his loving wife and constant caregiver of 56 years, by his side. He was born May 31, 1944 in Giles County, the son of the late Clarence (“C.K.”) & Hazel Weiss Harless.

Bill was an avid fisherman, trapper and hunter. He enjoyed his annual salmon fishing trips to New York. He was a hard worker, had a strong work ethic and was a good provider. He was a member of the first graduating class of Giles High School. He retired from Celanese after 43 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, “C.K.” & Hazel Weiss Harless, his brothers, Cecil Harless, Jimmy Harless, Doug (“Mack”) Harless and Marshall Harless, and his sisters and brother-in-law, Lois & Donald Stafford and Betty Roberts.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Hypes Harless; his daughters & sons-in-law, Donna H. & James Gillispie and Sherry H. Calderon and Mauricio Calderon; his grandchildren, Stephanie Calderon, Caitlin Calderon, Jordan Gillispie and Laurynn Gillispie; sisters & brothers-in-law, Patsy & Bob Bruce, Diane & Scotty Fewell and James Roberts; sisters-in-law, Helen Harless, Patty Harless, Ann Walters and Seretta Hypes; special family friend, Joey Medley; his constant companion, his special dog, “Lady”; and many nieces, nephews and friends, too many to list.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until service time, 1:00 P.M.
