Heavener, Thomas Edward

A tree fell to the ground Thursday, July 7, 2011. That day, Thomas Edward Heavener left his earthly realm of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Heavener, and his sister, Dorothy Lee Heavener Bodell. He is survived by the love of his life, Nan; and her three children, Dana Beth, Mark and Matthew. In addition, Ralph and Langley Liz Vick, son-in-law and granddaughter through Dana Beth, and Pamela Padgett, wife of Matthew. Surviving on the Heavener side are brother, David and wife, Helen; sister, Susie Heavener Siburt and husband, Paul; brother-in-law, Donald Bodell. Nephews are Steven Bodell and wife, Pat, Arthur Bodell, Hugh Bodell and wife, Valerie, Chuck Heavener and wife, Mary, Michael Siburt and wife, Claire, Mark Siburt and wife, Hannah, Scott Siburt and wife, Maureen; niece, Christy Heavener. To know him was to love him. Humble to a fault, he served in many capacities to benefit others as he lived an exemplary life. Of great significance throughout his life was the Masonic organization, as he both embraced and reflected it’s tenets. Blacksburg Christian Church was ever his source of spiritual strength; community service on Blacksburg Town Council, Kiwanis Club. Spending quality time in God’s natural surroundings through golf, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and travelling rounded his life. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Tommy Heavener died a happy man, because he lived a good life. Death, the common denominator, has but temporarily parted us. Bon Voyage, my sweet T. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Mr. Heavener will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. if anyone would like to come and visit with the family. The family requests that donations be made to the Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) Building Fund, 240 Watson Ave., Blacksburg, VA, 24060.
