Hendrix, Sally Slusher

Sally Slusher Hendrix, 58, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at her home in Radford.

Born in Radford, she was the daughter of the late Fred (Ab) and Margaret Slusher. She spent more than 37 years as an art history educator, including 31 years at Radford High School and two years at Dublin High School. She also served as an adjunct professor at New River Community College.

Her career included an appointment by Governor John N. Dalton to a term on the Virginia Commission for the Arts. In February 2006 she was honored by the Radford Chamber of Commerce as Radford City Public Schools Educator of the Year. In 2005, she was named the local Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Radford.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Philip Hendrix of Radford; a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Tom Cofran of Landenberg, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Caroline Cofran.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 4 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
