Buckland, Elizabeth Barger

Elizabeth Barger Buckland, 86, of Radford, formerly of Eggleston, Va., beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and mother-in-law, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 11, 2006 following a brief illness.

She was born February 29, 1920 in Eggleston to the late William Carroll Barger and Bess Neff Barger. She was recently predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Clinton H. Buckland, and in 1997 by her son-in-law H.P. “Buz” Gaffney, III.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra B. Weeks and husband Ira S. Weeks of Radford and Rebecca B. Gaffney of Williamsburg; and one sister, Joan B. Richardson and husband Harold Richardson of Narrows; their daughter, Tanya Richardson of Richmond. Also surviving are five granddaughters, Sheri W. Thompson and husband, Curtis, of Roanoke, Lori W. Baughman and husband, Tom, of Old Hickory, Tenn., Amy W. Duff and husband, Kenny, of Heber City, Utah, and Tyler E. and Chelsea G. Gaffney of Williamsburg; six great-grandchildren, Ben and Adam Thompson, Hunter and Ellie Duff, and Holly and Matthew Baughman; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Mrs. Buckland was the only surviving charter member of Eggleston United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir, United Methodist Women, and served as a Sunday school teacher. She currently attended Fairlawn United Methodist Church. She was a member for many years of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pearis Chapter #124, and served as past Worthy Matron. Her greatest treasure in life was her family and in her last days her concern was only for their welfare. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Givens Funeral Home with the Rev. Betty Roberts and the Rev. Randy Morris officiating. Following the service, interment will be at Birchlawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home on Monday, November 13, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a service conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star at 7:30 p.m.
