Henry Thomas Goforth Jr., 80, of Blacksburg, died on Monday, June 13, 2011, at his home. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va., on May 29, 1931, to the late Henry T. and Ella Mae Harry Goforth. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, James Emmett and Gladys Goforth; sisters and brothersin-law, Virginia Francis and Bob Hedrick, Willie Blake Hill, Anna Lucille and Stuart Remines, Mary Claudine Webb, Margaret and Frank Shrader, Peggy Lee; and brother-in-law, Dawson Sarver. Henry served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. He retired with over 37 years of service with Appalachian Power Company. After retirement he moved from Bluefield to Roanoke in 1988 then moved to Blacksburg in 2004. He was best known as “Pops,” and also to the children at church and on the football, baseball, soccer fields, and basketball courts as “The Candy Man.” He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Robertson Goforth; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Jacque Goforth, Mike and Tracy Goforth; two granddaughters, Carrie and husband, Drew Covey, and Mandi Goforth; two grandsons, Ethan Michael Goforth, Luke Thomas Goforth; a sister, Janetta Sarver; brothers-in-law, Bill Hill and Bill Webb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at noon on Thursday, June 16, 2011, in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Princeton, W.Va., with Minister Dan Webb officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St., Blacksburg, VA 24060 or Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Drive, NW, Christiansburg, VA 24073 or the Prices Fork United Methodist Church, 4236 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW Blacksburg, Va.
