Simpkins, Verna May Scott

Born February 5, 1925, in Radford, and died April 27, 2011, at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg, after a lengthy illness. Verna is the daughter of the late Edgar Lawrence Scott and the late Nina Newby Scott. She was an employee at Burlington Mills with 14 years of service. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Simpkins; and son, Steven Simpkins; by sisters, Marie Simpkins, Eunice Marshall, Charlotte (Jo) Sifford, and Mary Duncan; and brothers, Millard Scott and Ralph Scott. She is also predeceased by her best friend, Peter the Cockatiel. She is survived by daughter, Barbara Simpkins Croy; and special granddaughter, Ashley Simpkins; sisters, Virginia Scott Simpkins, Dublin, Irene Scott Brown, Florida; and brother, George Scott, Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Verna was a very kind and gentle person and had a huge, warm heart for everyone. She loved collectibles and flowers and was an avid cat lover. She always tried to help every kitten and stray cat she could. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford. Private interment to follow.
