Bales, Edgar Basil
Edgar Basil Bales, 70, of Narrows, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following six years of declining health. He was born July 28, 1940 at Pearisburg, the son of the late Goldie Fletcher Thomas and Edgar L. Bales, Jr. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Ratliff and his stepfather, James D. Thomas. Basil was retired from Hubbell Lighting in Christiansburg with 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Judith Crews Bales; two sons, Jerrod Bales and wife, Amy, of Narrows, Chad Bales and companion, Sara Wilson and her children, Ethan and Virginia, of Pearisburg; his granddaughter, Kimberly Bales; his grandson, Andrew Bales; two sisters, Janet Goad, of Bassett, and Connie Thomas, of Christiansburg; and his neighbor “family,” Shirley Bowers and Stevie Blankenship. The family would like to thank the nursing staff, 8th floor MSICU of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during his hospitalization. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Mike Neuse officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.
