Vest, Dorothy Elizabeth West

Dorothy Elizabeth West Vest, of Check, passed from this world peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the age of 92.

She was born October 19, 1914 in Carroll County, Virginia, to Wilton Winfield West and Fannie Hall West. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her twin brother, Donald West, her older brother, Ralph West, and her daughter, Margie L. Cahill. Dorothy retired from the Floyd County School system after 31 years of service.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hugh F. Vest; son and daughter-in-law, Roger E. and Sharon Vest; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy L. and J.C. Wimmer, Jr.; grandchildren, Jonathan Vest and wife Pamela, Amy Vest, Eric Vest and wife Margie, Jessica Vest Lewis and husband Michael, Travis Wimmer, Jennifer Wimmer; three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Paxton and Jackson Vest; sister and brother-in-law, Mae and Carl Dobbins; sisters-in-law, Marie Underwood West, Irene Vest, Allene Sweeney, Audrey Lee, Allie Vest; brother-in-law, Horace Vest.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Samuel L. Vest Family Cemetery, Check. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers are welcomed, however those who prefer may make gifts to the Hugh and Dorothy Vest Scholarship Fund at the Bank of Floyd.
