Gravely, Katherine Lucille Barker

Katherine Lucille Barker Gravely, 74, of Max Meadows, Va., passed away Monday, October 16, 2006 at her residence. She was born April 12, 1931 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late John and Willie Hinkley Barker. She was the former co-owner and founder of Gravely’s Pre-Cast, an active member of Max Meadows Church of God of Prophecy where she had served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher and was active in missionary work. Katherine was also a member of The World Poetry Society where she won the Golden Poet Award in 1980.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Christopher Michael Sparks and Nathaniel Lee Gravely; two brothers, Dick Barker and Carlton Barker of Christiansburg. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lee Gravely of the home; two sons, Edward Nathan Gravely of Rural Retreat, Nelson Gravely of Fort Chiswell; four daughters and sons-in-law, Susie and James Fitch of Shawsville, Va., Deborah and Greg Frye of Max Meadows, Laurie and Michael Crabtree of Austinville, Dana Eversole of Wytheville; one sister, Joyce Hutchinson of Christiansburg, Va.; one brother, David Barker of Vicker, Va.; special friends, Freddie Arnold and Dulcie Trimble; sister-in-law and lifelong friend Margie Marie Gravely of Wytheville; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kindle Arnold and the Rev. Albert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat. Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home or at the residence at any time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Max Meadows Church of God of Prophecy. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
