Pratt, Lenford Lee

Lenford Lee Pratt, 73, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at New River Valley Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mullins and Alma Pratt; his brothers, Ivan, Hubert, Aldon and Melvin Pratt; his sisters, Wilma Hubbard and Christine Bower; and his brothers-in-law, Flem Poff and David Bower.

Mr. Pratt served his country in United States Navy with four years of service of active duty and four years of service in the Navy Reserves. He retired in 1998 from Dr. Pepper-Pepsi-Cola after 39 years of dedicated service. He loved bowling, horseshoe pitching, fishing, hunting, and get-togethers with family and friends.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kimberly Pratt, Georgia; one granddaughter, Stephannie Pratt, Georgia; brothers and spouses, Lawton and Helen Pratt, Roanoke; Freeman and Rosie Pratt, Salem; Clinton and Violet Pratt, Christiansburg; sisters and spouses, Pauline Poff, Pilot, Mary Ruth and Luther Buckner, Christiansburg, Sylvia and Paul Gunter, Christiansburg; sisters-in-law, Mary Pratt, Salem; Norma Pratt, Riner; brother-in-law, Gordon Hubbard, Meadows of Dan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he cared for dearly, and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Walker and the Rev. Michael Bond officiating. Interment will follow at the Pratt Cemetery with military graveside rites by Floyd County V.F.W. Post # 7854 and Floyd County American Legion Post # 0127. Friends may call Thursday after 6 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thanks to sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ruth and Luther Buckner for taking care of Lenford in their home for the last three years. Also thanks to Lisa Franklin, a special care giver, and little Brianna Bland for her notes and pictures that made Len smile. Thanks to all the nurses and staff at New River Valley Medical Center and Brother Walker and Brother Bond for their visits and support. Lenford will be greatly missed. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
