smith_james_washingtonJames Washington (Jimmy) Smith, 66, of Riner, departed this life on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Lewis-Gale Hospital Montgomery surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on August 15, 1944, in Newport to the late John and Amanda “Bill” Smith and was also preceded in death by brothers, “Sonny” John Wallace and Jerry Smith. Those left to cherish his legacy are his wife of 44 years, Yvonne “Bonnie;” son, Craig and his wife, Cindy; daughter, Angie and her husband, Chip Oaks; nephew, John Wayne; his beloved grandchildren and the center of his world, Bryan (Lindsey), Danyelle (Matt Simmons), Army Specialist E4 Amanda, Alex, Chayse, Brittany, Savannah, Andy, Brieanna, and Andrianna; brothers and sisters, June (Walter Kerr), Iris “Tater,” Patsy (Charlie Vaught), and Joyce (Mike Dilello); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Jackie and Patty Collins. Jimmy also had so many special and dedicated friends that made his life complete, especially his trucking buddies fond all across these great United States. Jimmy owned and operated trucks his entire life and lived to truck. He loved being on the road traveling, Mt. Lake, and talking on the phone with his family and friends. Jimmy was a devoted family man and took his role as provider very seriously. He will be missed and cherished by all that knew him. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in the Atkins Cemetery at Newport.
