Cassell, Rachael Elizabeth Hammersley

Rachael Elizabeth Hammersley Cassell, 90, of Pulaski, died on Thursday morning, March 10, 2011, in Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was born on April 8, 1920, in Roanoke, and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Luck Feather Hammersley and Elwood Howard Hammersley. Mrs. Cassell was a retired employee of Pulaski Furniture Corporation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Frederick Cassell; and two brothers, Howard Hammersley and William Hammersley. She is survived by two daughters, Jean H. Witt and her husband, Harold L., of Radford, and Dorothy C. Turman and her husband, Owen, of Pulaski; a son, Bruce Cassell and his wife, Helen, of Greensboro, N.C.; her beloved dog, “Hokie;” a life-long friend, Ellie Umberger, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Gretchen Peiffer, Toney Hall, Sandra Beckstoffer, Susan Burchett, Valerie Patton, and Dianne Hall; and 11 greatgrandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
