Laing, Emma Amelia Ballschmieder
Emma Amelia Ballschmieder Laing, 94, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, Va. Emma was born on January 6, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late August and Margaret Dawson Ballschmieder. Emma was a graduate of Fredonia Normal School. She was an elementary school teacher in East Otto and East Aurora, N.Y. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, John Laing; son, John Brian Laing; and sister, Margaret Witzig. Emma will be sadly missed by her daughter, Jennifer Kay Laing Loveday and husband, Thomas, of Blacksburg, Va.; daughter-in-law, Judy Laing, of Umatilla, Fla.; grandchildren, Beth Loveday MacDonald, of Christiansburg, Va., Amy Loveday Hanek, of Glade Hill, Va., and Jeremy Thomas Loveday, of Utica, Mich.; stepgrandsons, Phillip Cliburn, of Leesburg, Fla., and Mark Cliburn, of Orlando, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren. There will be no services. At Emma’s request, she was cremated.
