Orton, Betty Jean Dayton

Betty Jean Dayton Orton, 77, of Christiansburg went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 28, 2011, in Blacksburg, Va. Born at home on June 9, 1933, in Corinth, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Elizabeth (Duel) Dayton.  Betty graduated from Corinth High School in 1951 and from Child’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y., with a nursing degree. She worked at various hospitals and nursing homes, including Glens Falls Hospital, in Glens Falls, N.Y., and Hilltop Manor and Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, N.Y.
Betty was a follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted Mom, a wife and a nurse. Her kind and gentle spirit were only equaled by her dry sense of humor. Along with her husband, Ramon, she raised five children.
Her father and mother, along with her sister, Mary Lou Dayton, all of Corinth are already in heaven to welcome her.
She leaves behind a loving family, her husband of 57 years, Ramon Orton, of Christiansburg, Va.; her sons, David Orton and his wife, Lisa, of Norfolk, Va., Dennis Orton and friend, Karen Watkins, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Duane Orton and his wife, Robin Ann, of Cary, N.C.; her daughters, Pamela Pichette and her husband, Jack, of Flint, Mich., and Robin Aileen Tagg and her husband, Jonathan, of Blacksburg, Va.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brother, Roger Dayton and his wife, Dale, of Corinth; and her sister, Nanette Humbert and her husband, the Rev. Leonard Humbert, of Rose, N.Y.

She spoke with wisdom,
And faithful instruction was on her tongue.
She watched over the affairs of her household
And did not eat the bread of idleness.

Her husband also, and he praises her.

Services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2011, at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Avenue, Corinth, N.Y., with the Rev. Leonard Humbert, pastor of the Rose Free Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Spring burial will be at Corinth Rural Cemetery.
