Merrix, Hettie Sue (Susie)

Hettie Sue (Susie) Merrix, 87, of Pearisburg and Goldbond, Va., departed this life for her heavenly home at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, Friday morning, February 25, 2011. Susie was born in Giles County on November 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Fred and Maudie Mae Neice Martin. She was a devoted Christian and for many years was a member of The Goldbond Gospel Tabernacle and in later years Shaver Memorial Church in Pearisburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Kendill L. Merrix; her brothers, Curtis and Junior Martin; and her sisters, Agatha Sanders, Juanita Lovern, Lilie Neice, and Gladys Shaver. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Leon Junior “L J” Merrix and his wife, Joyce Ann, of Bassett; her daughters and sons-in-law, Shelvy Jean and Tommy Robertson, of Chesterfield, “Deannie” Margaret Geraldine Kessinger, of Pembroke, Betty Ann and Harold Shrader, of Bassett, Shirley and Roy Thornhill, of Pearisburg; her brothers, Kermit Martin, of Christiansburg, and Jimmy and Dolly Martin, of Goldbond; her sisters, Marie Snider, of Pearisburg, Bonnie and Skeeter Robertson, of Dublin, Linda and Buster Perkins, of Goldbond; her nine grandchildren, her 10 great-grandchildren; her one greatgreatgrandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor David Cope and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke.
