Cecil, Robert S. (Buzz)

cecil_robert_sRobert S. (Buzz) Cecil, a resident of Claytor Lake, Dublin, Va., died on Wednesday night, February 23, 2011. He was born in Pulaski, Va., on March 8, 1922, the son of the late Robert Sullins Cecil and Mary Eagle Cecil. He was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, Dublin United Methodist Church, served on the Dublin Town Council for 10 years and Dublin Fire Department for over 55 years. Buzz sold farm equipment in Dublin for over 31 years before becoming the first paid employee of the department, retiring as Chief in 1998. He served as Chief for 35 years. Buzz was married to the late Betty Ann Cecil for 54 years. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie and Debbie Cecil, Jay Cecil, and Jimmy and Fran Cecil; grandchildren, Laura Cardan, Jamie Cecil, Matt Cecil and LeAnne Cecil; and greatgrandchildren, Alyssa Cecil, Cole Cecil, Ryder Cecil and Sophia Cecil. Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Rowland and Susie Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting Graveside Military Rites. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dublin United Methodist Church.
