Goans, Mary H. (Amy)

Mary H. (Amy) Goans, 93, of Christiansburg, Va., completed her journey to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 10, 2011. Born on September 7, 1917, to Henry C. and Willie M. Chumbley, she was a lifelong resident of Christiansburg and educated in Montgomery County Schools. She was a retired nurse and a member of the Belmont Christian Church. Amy, as everyone knew her, was well known for her piano and organ music in many different churches whenever needed and got a blessing from sharing food, clothing or anything to help those in need. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Goans; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011, in the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. James Bayne and the Rev. Dale Akers with interment to follow in Belmont Cemetery.
