Boone, Martha Joyner

Martha Savannah Joyner Boone, 87, of Blacksburg, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Lewis Gale/Montgomery Hospital. She was born in Southampton County, Va. on July 22, 1923 to the late Charles Edward and John Elizabeth Underwood Joyner. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Rex Hart and a great-grandson, Caupert Rexford Hart Pattishall. She served as State Safety Chairman of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs from 1958 to 1962 and during this time was a member of the Advisory Committee of The Governor’s Highway Safety Committee and its Executive Committee. She was also a former President of both the Junior and Senior Woman’s Clubs in Blacksburg. Martha was front desk supervisor at the Donaldson-Brown Continuing Education Center at Virginia Tech and was an avid Hokie. She was also very active in the Blacksburg Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, James Frederick Boone, of Blacksburg; daughters and son-in-law, Diana and Don Pumphrey, of Christiansburg, Janice Hart, of Blacksburg; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Beverly Boone, of King George, Va.; sister, Gayle Martin, of Gadsden, Ala.; eleven grandchildren, Lee Anne, Karen, Terri, Lloyd, Robin, Geoffrey, Tiffany, Paul, Brittany, Forrest, Shannon; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy McDearis and Dr. Don McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association , 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
