Myers, Ruth Geraldine

Ruth Geraldine Myers of Blacksburg, Va. was born October 23, 1920 in Babylon, N.Y. and entered into her Savior’s presence on April 18, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2003 and her oldest daughter, Carol Botts in 2017.

Ruth loved and served Jesus and by her influence, her parents, brother, and all her children loved and served Christ as well. Perhaps her greatest legacy was found in insuring that the family always attended churches that nurtured her children in the faith.

Ruth’s father was a teacher. He passed his love of learning on to Ruth as she did to her children. All of them attended school beyond high school with four earning college degrees and three entering the teaching profession. With her last child in high school and at age 52, Ruth went back to college, earned her AA degree and became a licensed vocational nurse.

Because Ruth loved Jesus, she also loved His church and was always active in ministry, leadership, and church activities. All of her children have also faithfully served their local churches. When Bill and Ruth retired, they volunteered for the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP), a group of retired Christian RVers who travel and serve the Lord doing construction projects for Christian organizations. The ten years that they served with MMAP, traveling throughout the US doing ministry, were some of the happiest of Ruth’s life.

Ruth is survived by her brothers, Maurice (Bud) Davis of Gainsville, Fla., Bill Myers (Jr.) of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Dave Myers (Dorrie) of Sacramento, Calif., Bob Myers (Diane) of Galesburg, Ill.; sister, Debbie Phillips (Timothy) of Blacksburg, Va; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Riverside National Cemetery in California. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them” (Rev. 14:13).
