hypes_paul_francisPaul Francis (Bushrod) Hypes, 71, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County, Va., on September 17, 1938, to the late Raymond Luther and Brown Ribble Kent Hypes. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe and Ervin Hypes. He worked at the Blacksburg Country Club and the Blacksburg Municipal Golf Course. Paul also coached sandlot football and basketball for the Blacksburg Recreation Center. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served for five years. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Perdue Hypes; two daughters, Rebecca Holmes, and Melissa “Missy” Hypes, both of Blacksburg; a son-in-law, Kelvin Holmes, Blacksburg; his son, Ronald Hypes, Blacksburg; three granddaughters, Lauren Hypes, Ashleea Hypes, Oleighia “Punkin” Hypes, all of Blacksburg; two grandsons, Anthony “Herbie” Hypes, Blacksburg, Tyler Holmes, Amhurst, Mass.; three greatgrandchildren, Amyha Smith, Akira Walton, Omar Hypes; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Ray (Marty) and Jack Bolt, Tuscon, Ariz.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kenneth (Andy) Hypes, of Tennessee, Lee (Leroy) and Wanda Hypes, Pembroke; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rador Vaden officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg High School Athletics Association, 520 Patrick Henry Drive, Blacksburg, Va. 24060, or to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, NE, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
