Brotherton, James Franklin (Jim)
James Franklin (Jim) Brotherton, 82, of Pearisburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his home. Mr. Brotherton was born on August 17, 1927, in Pearisburg and was a son of the late Fred Sheffey Brotherton and Mary Woods Brotherton. Besides his parents, one son, John Michael Brotherton; and two brothers, Robert S. Brotherton and Thomas L. Brotherton; preceded him in death. Mr. Brotherton was a graduate of Pearisburg High School and attended Concord College. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg having joined on April 18, 1943. He was a 50 year member of Giles Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke, and a member of the Giles Shrine Club. He was a retired field engineer from Virginia Tech. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Corell Brotherton, of Pearisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Jana Van Hemert Brotherton Jr., of High Point, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Curtis James Brotherton and Rachel Lynn Brotherton. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Brad Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home on Friday evening, June 18, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic Graveside Services will be conducted at Birchlawn.
