Harden, Lucy Irene

Lucy Irene Harden, 94, of Ceres, VA, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was born January 14, 1924 in Bland County, the daughter of the late Everette & Lucille Bane Walters.

She was a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church, where she attended regularly until January of this year. She was very spiritual and had an unwavering faith, continuously praying for others even with her recent sickness and stay in Carrington Place nursing home. She began her days with religious bible studies and devotions were part of her morning routine. Up until her sickness, she lived alone and maintained her own home, where grandchildren came for “country meals.” She was devoted to her community and was blessed with wonderful neighbors.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Robert Harden, Sr., two sons, G.R. Harden, Jr. and Glenn Ray Harden, a daughter, Betty Mercedith Clark, a grandson, Terry Ray Umbarger and two sisters, Hazel Richardson and Imogene Perdue.

Left to cherish her memory of a life well lived are her daughters & sons-in-law, Frances & Ray Umbarger, Linda & Tony Spears, and Carl E. Clark; a daughter-in-law, Betty Orey Harden; special “chosen” children, Joan Umbarger Chandler and Jerry Eaton; grandchildren, Carl Anthony Clark, Tony Ray Harden, Jason Spears, Todd Harden, Brad Harden, Denise Umbarger DIllow and grand-daughter-in-law, Sue Smith Umbarger; great-grandchildren, Trey Harden, Corey Harden, John DIllow, Chris Dillow, Josh Dillow, Mia Clark, Sophia Clark and Olivia Clark; great-great-grandchildren, Abel Dillow and Lillian Irene Dillow; sisters & brother-in-law, Maxine Shoemaker and Donna & Wayne Jobe and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00P.M. at Red Oak United Methodist Church, Ceres, VA with Pastor Barry Dillow and Rev. Neil Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Red Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Red Oak United Methodist Church form 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
