blackwell_daniel_brownDaniel Brown Blackwell, 83, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home. He was a crane operator for McDowell & Woods in Salem for over 35 years, building bridges throughout Virginia, an avid fan of running his beagles and rabbit hunting. The son of the late William Brown and Ida Martin Blackwell he was also preceded in death by a brother, William B. Blackwell; and sisters, Essie Fagan, Ann Creasy and Stella Light. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Flinchum Blackwell; son, Gary W. Blackwell and wife, Sue, of Pilot, Va.; nephews, Buddy Morehead, James Morehead, Pulaski, David Morehead, Max Meadows; Donnie Graves, Ricky Graves, Dickie Graves, Dennis Graves, Darrell Graves, Derick Graves; and niece, Teresa Martin, all of Christiansburg. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice also Dr. Mike Payne, Dr. Jerome Goldschmidt and Dr. Carl Hannah and a special thanks for all the cards and food from friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Everett Shepherd and the Rev. John Tibbs with interment in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
