Akers, Michael Keith

Michael (Mike) Keith Akers, 53, of Southport, N.C., died Friday, May 28, 2010 at his home. Mr. Akers was born October 28, 1956 in Pulaski, Virginia, the son of Robert Richard Akers and Evelyn Goad Akers Black.

He was raised in Roanoke, Virginia. Mr. Akers was a HVAC mechanic and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mr. Akers was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Goad Akers Black and husband, Paul Gary of Roanoke, Va., and a sister, Debra Akers Shepperson and husband, Lee of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by a very special pet dog.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 31, 2010 at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport. A memorial service will be held in Roanoke, Virginia, at a later date that will be announced.
