Dickens, Sarah Belle

Sarah Belle Dickens, 81, of Northview in Blacksburg, Va., departed this life at her home where she was found May 8, 2010. Born in Connorsville, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Robert Mersiowkey and Sarah M. Davis. She had been employed in the mail room at Virginia Tech and spent a lot of her time volunteering at The Red Cross and for hospice services. A grandson, Jamison Nathan Cooley, and a sister, Grace Livingston preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Cooley Newman and Sandy Newman, of Newport; her granddaughters, Harmony Newman, of Newport and Christy Sparks and her husband, William Sparks, of Tazewell; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Sparks, Amber Sparks, Brienna Sparks, and Hayleigh Abbott; her sons, Darrel J. Davis, of Bloomington, Indiana and Steven N. Davis, of Bastian, Va.; her half sister, June, of Crozet, Va. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, May 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. in God’s House, Hoges Chapel Community, Pembroke, with Pastor Wayman Creger officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The American Red Cross, 712 N Main St., Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
