George Edward Wojciechowski, 86, of Christiansburg, VA went to be with his Lord on December 31, 2017. He was born in McRoberts, KY on May 27, 1931, to the late Stanley and Katherine Wojciechowski.
Survivors: Daughter Tanya Wojciechowski Akers and son-in-law Wayne of Christiansburg, VA; Brother Richard (Elene) Wojciechowski Isom, KY.
Grandchildren; Brian (Valerie) Mullins, Stephanie (Derrick) Boyd, Stacy (Shep) Millar, Tyler (Amanda) Marcum, James (Maegan) Akers, Shannon Akers (Josh) and Breana Akers (Wesley); Great-Grandchildren, Brooklyn, Alexis, Nicholas, Natalie, Avery, Eden, Skyler, Caleb, Caden; Preceded in death his Wife; Norma Jean Wojciechowski
At an early age, George served in World War II and the Korean War; serving as an Army Paratrooper. He was discharged as a Sergeant, received various Medals and a Purple Heart. After the army, he attended a technical school and worked as a bellhop at The Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY when he met Norma Jean. They married in 1956 and returned home to McRoberts. George retired from Bethlehem Steel after 31 years of service as their Mine 22 chief supply clerk and often first aid trainer. He was always helping others in the community, an avid fisherman at Norris Lake in Tennessee and a devoted UK Wildcats Basketball Fan. A devout Catholic, who still served as altar boy at age 84, at Holy Angels in McRoberts. A wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. We will always remember how he loved us.
Father Robert Adams will conduct a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Laurel Grove Cemetery 4812-4850 VA-74 Norton, VA 24273. Interment will follow. Arrangements By: McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations made in memory of George E Wojciechowski to St George Catholic Church or Wounded Warriors Foundation.
