Myers, Rhoda Reagh

Rhoda Reagh Myers, 77, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derek Myers, her parents, Jean and Alder Reagh, and her two brothers, William and Theodore Reagh.

Mrs. Myers was born and raised in San Francisco. She attended and graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and attended graduate school at Virginia Tech, where she earned her Master’s degree in Accounting. Prior to settling in Blacksburg, she worked professionally for the Girl Scouts of America, and as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Pudding Hill, Vermont. In Blacksburg, she worked at Virginia Tech in the Office of the Controller from 1995-2002, rising to the rank of Associate Controller. From 2004 until retiring in 2014, she worked at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, initially as Controller and later as a part-time consultant.

She was an active member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, and involved in administration of To Our House, a shelter program for homeless men in Montgomery County, as well as Valley Interfaith Child Care Center, a not-for-profit providing child care for lower-income families.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her daughter, Meigra Myers Chin and her husband Prescott Chin of West Orange, NJ; her son, Robin Myers, of Blacksburg; and three grandchildren, Hannah Nichols of Brooklyn, NY, and Keira and Henry Chin.

The family expresses gratitude to the many health care professionals, too many to name, who cared for Mrs. Myers during her prolonged illness and made her final days so comfortable. The family also is very grateful to the innumerable friends and acquaintances whose visits and support meant so much to her quality of life during recent years.

A service in memory and thanksgiving will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Myers cared very much for the welfare of others, and requested that a good way to honor her memory would be gifts in lieu of flowers to either Valley Interfaith Child Care Center or To Our House.
