Duncan, Peggy Ballengee

Peggy Ballengee Duncan died peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 with family by her side. Born on January 15, 1932 in Covington, she was the daughter of Charles C. and Eunice M. Ballengee. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Howard Pape. She is survived by her daughters, Gail and Robert Stewart of New Castle, Karen Pape of Charlottesville, Tina and David McPherson of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Evan and Jeremy Pape and Ross and Tate McPherson; great grandchildren, Elliot and Owen Pape. Mom leaves behind Brenda Griffin, a loving caretaker and friend. She is survived by five siblings, Phoebe Stacy, Richard Ballengee, Charles Ballengee, Susie Sult, and Bonnie Crock. She leaves a host of supportive friends, too many to name individually. Mother’s siblings and friends remained a constant source of inspiration. A special thanks to Christine Jordan and staff, Comfort Care Home staff, Mary Anne Harris, Good Samaritan Hospice and Gary McCoy. Peggy left her mark on the community. She and her former husband, Ralph created the “green rivers” and “cherry smashes” at their Lyric Shop and then built her namesake business Peggy’s Poly Clean Center. Later, she enjoyed her role as the “Lobby Goddess” and “The Voice of Poly” at Litton Industries. She was a lifetime member of the Blacksburg Christian Church, Past Senior Regent of the Loyal Order of Moose, a member of the Red Hats, and a regular contender at the Senior Olympics. She volunteered at multiple organizations. You may remember her as one of the cutest models for MCEAP. Peggy enjoyed her life and always believed that the best was yet to be. The day before her death, she told her daughters that she had never been so happy. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Gary W. McCoy, officiating, with visitation to follow.
