Leopold Andrew Lorek, 87, of Wrightsville Beach, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. Leo was born September 25, 1918, in Castle Hayne, NC, son of the late Andrew Lorek and Sophia Stanak Lorek. His wife of 34 years, Barbara Jean Lorek, preceded him in death.

Mr. Lorek was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Leo graduated from UNC School of Pharmacy in 1940 and was the 56th professional Pharmacist in the United States. He was the former owner and manager of two drug stores in Radford, VA, then semi-retired as relief Pharmacist at Tom?s Drug Store in downtown Wilmington. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks # 532.

He is survived by his children, William A. Lorek and wife Cynde of Goodview, VA, Carol L. Lorek of Key West, FL, Jacquelyn M. Lorek of Escondido, CA, Steven Fawcett and wife Helen of Stoneham, MA, Thomas Fawcett and wife Karen of Henderson, NC, and Barbara Kelly and husband Jerry of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Robyne Lorek, Michael Lorek, Anna Kelly, Sarah Kelly, Benjamin Fawcett and Emma Fawcett; and a sister, Isabelle Owsik of Somerset, NJ.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. Doug Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
